Indianapolis Colts Take On Falcons in German Capital – NFL Week 10
Guten tag, football fans. How are you? Alles klar I trust on this excellent early start to the tenth week coming directly from Germany. The Olympiastadion in Berlin to be precise where at 9:30 AM EST and 2:30 PM GMT the mighty Colts (7-2) face off against the Atlanta Falcons (3-5). The fifth game played on soil in Germany and the first in the capital city.
Pre-match Highlights
When it comes to glittering attire that is an absolute belter from Katarina Witt on the coin toss. A slight fluff from the broadcast team there as we hear “which team got the coin flip?” from the commentator with an unfortunately hot mic.
Well, the Colts have won the toss and have chosen to get the ball first. Daniel Jones and company will be setting up shortly. Can the quarterback recover after a rough one in Pittsburgh?
In a similar vein the vocalist performing the Star Spangled Banner has some of the biggest shoulder embellishments you are bound to notice. Loving the sartorial choices today. We are almost underway after a choral number for the national anthem of Germany. Elegant.
First Quarter Action
Scoreless at 13:30 in the first
And we're off! And we have early drama after the Colts running back receives a short throw, gains 15 yards on the outside to the right side then loses the ball … only for his center to recover the fumble with the recovery. Colts are in Falcons territory already.
Colts 0-0 Falcons 10:51, 1st quarter
And the drama keeps coming as the Indianapolis attempts a fourth-down conversion. The gamble fails to pay off as Josh Downs fails to catch a quick pass from Jones. Prior to the failed attempt the Falcons defender put a huge hit on tight end Mo Alie-Cox. The Falcons have come out fighting on defense as they try and snap their three-game losing streak. Following that, Sauce Gardner makes his first appearance!
Touchdown Updates
First score: Colts lead 6-0 at 8:36
Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The tight end drops a clanger, he was very open but the ball just swishes through his hands. That play rather sums up the first round pick’s career to date.
A disappointing start but it only gets worse for the Atlanta as they cough the ball back to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard line. The Falcons quarterback is hunted down and fumbles the football.
An agile 22-yard rush from Ashton Dulin sets the running back up to roll in for the score on the next snap. The placekicker misses the point after attempt. Oops.
Falcons respond: 6-7 at 6:07
Penix Jr puts the fumble behind him by marching his Falcons down the field for a score of their own. The wide receiver makes some chunky receptions to put them in the scoring area then the seas part for the running back to run untouched into the end zone through the heart of the field for a 13-yard gain. The running back finishes it off for a one-yard touchdown of his own. Advantage Atlanta.
Other Week 10 Games
And for afters, the jumbo package starting at 1 PM EST and 6 PM GMT (with home teams first) is as follows:
(5-4) Carolina Panthers v Saints (1-8)
(5-3) Bears v Giants (2-7)
(3-5) Texans v Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3)
(2-7) Dolphins v Bills (6-2)
(4-4) Vikings v Baltimore Ravens (3-5)
(1-7) New York Jets v Browns (2-6)
(6-2) Buccaneers v New England Patriots (7-2)
An exciting lineup. My pick for the best game is the Vikings and Ravens playing out the top contest of the day.
