‘A Man Who Will Be Deeply Missed’: The Actress Meg Ryan Posts Emotional Tribute to Director Rob Reiner
The actress Meg Ryan has shared a moving homage to the late director Rob Reiner, who was her director in the beloved rom-com When Harry Met Sally.
A Tragic Discovery
Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA this past weekend.
“Oh how we will miss this man…” the actress posted on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “Our gratitude, Rob and Michele, for your faith in true love, stories, and joy. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”
Charges Filed
Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.
“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan went on to write. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”
Children Share Their Grief
Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy issued words today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”
Hollywood Tributes Pour In
Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, similarly honored Reiner via comments shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.
“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” the statement said. “He adored his actors. He elevated his writers. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. Everyone felt like part of a crew. His direction was a gift, but his legacy is broader.”
An Enduring Filmography
When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
Rob Reiner first encountered Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.
Reiner’s notable filmography comprised classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
